Finnish Progressive Rock

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

My Finnish friend, Kimmo, posted this link in the Record Collectors Guild forum. For those of you who are into progressive rock, here is an opportunity to discover some bands from the early-mid ’70’s that you may never have heard. There is something mystical about listening to music in a language you don’t understand.

I encourage you to explore the site. Even though you may not understand what you are reading, I’m sure you will grasp the concept of clicking on a video to get it to play.

Elävä arkisto (The Living Archive)

Check out groups such as Wigwam, Tabula Rasa, Tasavallan Presidentti, and Haikara. If you like what you hear, post a comment and let me know.

About the site: The archives of YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Company, have been opened to the public. Elävä arkisto (The Living Archive) is a free internet service through which you can listen to voices from the past and watch the progress of history on the small screen. The website presents the visitor with a library containing hundreds of television programmes and thousands of radio programmes in both Finnish and Swedish.

Lightning strikes twice in Southern California!

Here we are, not even a week after Ian Hunter played The Grove of Anaheim, and I find out he has penciled in yet ANOTHER visit to Southern California on June 16 to promote the release of his new CD “Shrunken Heads”. Even more bitchen, he will be playing The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano - 10 minutes down the freeway.

Check out the first single to be released, “Words (Big Mouth)” by clicking the picture. Then, go buy the album!

Too freakin’ cool!

Asia dives on US subprime woe
Losses on Wall Street sets sell dominos falling in Japan and other Far East markets.
March 13 2007: 10:20 PM EDT

SINGAPORE (Reuters) — Asian share markets on Wednesday tracked heavy losses on Wall Street on fears about an intensifying crisis in U.S. mortgage lending, spooking investors nursing losses from a sharp sell-off two weeks ago.

Japanese stocks fell more than 2 percent, mirroring falls on Wall Street that were triggered by growing losses at subprime lending firms — those operating at the riskier end of the mortgage market — and weak U.S. retail sales.

“As of March 9, 2007, all of the Company’s lenders under its short-term repurchase agreements and aggregation credit facilities had discontinued their financing with the Company or had notified the Company of their intent to do so.”

Just desserts.
