Socialog Opens

Friday, November 30th, 2001

Added the socialog discussion forum – complete with a live chat room. Using the capabilities of Network54, who hosts the applications. Easy to set up and configure. However, as I am painfully aware, just creating these sorts of cool features on a website does not a community build. Only an experiment.

Excited About the Adventure

Thursday, November 29th, 2001

I look forward to the stimulation and gratification is always good. Maybe I can get it started….

Yesterday I attended a presentation on e-learning. One of the presenters really caught my attention. His view of e-learning included the application of KM in order to make the learning meaningful and relevant. He kept reiterating that something learned in the traditional manner (classroom training) was just information and worth little until it was applied and became knowledge. His model went something like this….E-learning is just a tool (Computer Based Training (CBT), Web BT, Web Casts, etc) that presents learning elements (information) which are of no value unless it enables the learner (becomes a Knowledge Object (his words)). He then added in order for the knowledge to be of benefit to any organization it needed to be shared. Execute – Learn – Work – Share was the life cycle he presented. Different words but the process is clearly the same as what The Climax Project is doing to implement KM as a benefit to GlobalWorldCom (GWC).
